1208646 95754385 300x250 An Introduction to Creative Imagination A State of FlowOur imagination is one of the most precious gifts we have as human beings.  I was just going through ‘Think And Grow Rich’ by Napoleon Hill and I came across the section where he describes two types of imagination – The synthetic imagination and the creative imagination.

We use synthetic imagination to solve problems with our current knowledge and past experiences.  Our synthetic imagination is our basic ability to restructure known concepts and ideas in new set of combination.  This type of creativity is not what artists call “real” creativity.  Synthetic creativity is generally used by inventors and scientists to integrate new scientific concepts with existing theories.  Synthetic creativity is used to integrate or extend upon the existing scientific theories.

We can experience miraculous results when we put ourselves in the state of “Creative Imagination” – A term coined by Napoleon Hill in his book “Think And Grow Rich.”  Our creative imagination is connected to the infinite intelligence and is the inspiration of all the new and authentic ideas that we experience.  All the awe-inspiring forms of art, scientific achievement, or athleticism, are direct outcomes of creative imagination.

We can increase our chances of experiencing creative imagination by consistently putting ourselves in the state of flow.  Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, the well-known author of ground-breaking and well-researched book “Flow”, calls this state the “state of flow” – an optimal experience of human consciousness.  The state of flow can be experienced by creating a strong congruence between the the incoming information and our goals.  This congruence frees up our psychic energy.  When our psychic energy is liberated, our creative intelligence is unleashed and we feel the “flow”.  When we are in “flow”, our thoughts, our intentions, our feelings, and all our senses are focused on the singular outcome.  Our entire being is in harmony, not just internally, but also with respect to other individuals and world in general.

There is no easy way to get in the state of flow than to simply invest ourselves fully to the limits of our concentration.  Once we engage in an activity at this level, the deepest level of our concentration, we experience a state of joy.  To experience the same level of joy again, we have to stretch ourselves to even further and deeper level of concentration.  This is how our creative consciousness grows.  It is only from this state of flow that we can make any significant contributions to the humankind.
