1054541 90255366 300x298 Source of Creativity: Nature Or Nurture? There is a hot debate regarding the source of behavioral attributes in human beings. The creativity of children is inherently embedded in the debate. The argument centers around the question of whether it is nature or nurture that determines the way a person behaves and makes choices in life. The findings can have deep repercussions in various fields including education, child rearing and even the pronouncement of judgment in various criminal cases. What really makes a person the way he or she is, is a question that has evaded a satisfactory answer for ages.

Those that believe that it is nurture strongly advocate that it is the environment in which a child grows that really inculcates creativity in them. They believe that any child nurtured in a creative environment would begin to exhibit creative traits in their life. They also maintain that children raised in a very oppressive background with no positive mental stimulation would fail to truly realize their potential. Proponents of ‘nuture’ therefore stress the fact that it is a person’s upbringing that has a lot to do with the way they behave in life.

Those that believe that children are born with innate traits stress that it is nature that has endowed them with gifts and talents and their upbringing only facilitates in bringing the inborn traits outward for everyone to see. There seems to be a lot of truth in their belief. A special study was conducted on various pairs of twins that were separated shortly after birth and were raised separately in vastly different backgrounds. The startling findings were that although the twins were raised separately and had never met each other, they almost chose the same profession that their other twin chose, they married the same kind of person as their counterpart, and in some cases, both the twins died on the exact same date. While some people might dismiss these findings as mere coincidences, there seems to be some credibility to the notion that they are indeed born with predisposition to making certain choices in life.

It should be stressed however that this does not in any way free them from moral responsibility in the wrong choices that they might have made in life. For instance, a person cannot commit a murder and blame it on their genetic predisposition. Although there is considerable debate on the question of the origin of creativity, it seems to be divinely bestowed on each person for their individual call in life.
