This article is so insightful and it's a very important subject. I've taught creative music, art, drama and storytelling activities to young children for almost twenty years, and I learn something new every day from these kids. My website http://www.freewebs.com/teachcreativity has lots of ideas and activities for helping children develop their creativity, from my teaching and my professional workshops for early childhood professionals. But they apply to parents as all caregivers too!

Hi Lisa! Thank you for your comment. It is so easy for parents to squash a child's creativity without even realizing it. I hope that websites such as ours will help parents and teachers realize how we must nuture our children to grow as artists. I agree that allowing kids to express themselves creatively will affect other aspects of their lives. I checked out your site and subscribed to your feed. Thank you again for your input. ~Terry

I was so interested in the story at the start of this article, it is so easy to restrict creativity and we don't realise the long-term implications of this. Allowing kids to express their creativity not only helps nurture the artist within them but also the great communicator, thinker, problem-solver etc. I am contributing artist on www.kiddingabout.com and we look at issues like this in relation to toddlers and young kids.
